Mushrooms and Ladybugs - Process Breakdown

Initial Sketch

This piece started and ended in Photoshop. No sketch was done on paper this time. I knew I wanted a face, but wasn’t sure if I wanted to the whole face to be seen. I ended up only showing the eye and nose, and the other features are missing completely. The sketch is loose and I proceed to add value underneath.

Adding Value

Loosely blocking in value over the whole piece, to get a feel for it. Everything is kept loose in this stage, and refining comes next.

Final

Kept refining, adding darker and lighter values. Sharpening up edges, and making sure there was a stark contrast where her eye and nose is to draw in the viewer. I add value and detail both under and over the sketch layer.
